ABOUT THE DESIGNER: YEAR OF OURS
This starts with the brand name itself, Year of Ours: “It signifies the feeling that you get in the beginning of any sport season and the idea of ‘it's our year’ to win. Whether you play and / or watch sports, you understand that moment of hope and team spirit. The brand's ethos is based around team and everyone being a part of it. It’s all about #TEAMYOS,” founder Eleanor Haycock explains.

Today’s athleisure influence in fashion speaks to a bigger cultural shift: the seamless flow between profession and play, and the need for clothing that is sweat-free, fits comfortably, and works for the on-the-go woman who is hustling throughout her day. (It needs to work well for the “whatever activity” in a woman’s day — as referenced by Haycock above.)
Year of Ours’ point of difference when it comes to other athletic brands? “It’s American made, women-owned, women-led, women-designed, team-focused, and truly can be worn in studio or anywhere else your day takes you,” Haycock asserts. That’s why the intentional use of fabrics like active jersey, active rib, active thermal, and velour are “built to bend, flex and fight alongside you.”
Haycock teamed up with partner Lily Shen, who has been a factory owner in the manufacturing industry for more than 20 years, and launched Year of Ours in 2016. Alejandra Hernandez, a celebrity stylist and vintage expert, joined the brand on the design front, while Eleanor’s brother Chris Haycock handles branding and marketing. (Chris helped with the logo and name creation, for example.)
The female-run company has since become recognized for its signature styles and fits, which span a wide range of sizes: Year of Ours offers a diverse size range and does not change the styles based off size. This means that a customer will find the same styles, whether they are an XS o XL.
